Why I Will Not Be Century Tuna’s New Image Model

After running the 10km event at the Condura Run, I decided to go down to the next lowest distance for the Century Tuna event. The latter running event had a lot more participants and a much earlier start but fortunately it wasn’t much of an inconvenience.

Relative to the field, I think I ran a fairly good race. I clocked in at 34 minutes and 18 seconds so I guess that’s already an acceptable time for a beginner who is running his second major event.

Here are some things that I learned during my preparation for the event:

1. I need to get a good iPhone armband as soon as possible. Having the iPhone in my shorts’ rather shallow pockets made me run a little bit more tentative. I’m sure I fussed with my pockets way too much during the run. Who knows, having the iPhone on my arm could have made me a few seconds faster.

2. I really have to get in front of the slow runners next time. It was hard having to weave in and out of traffic. It was frustrating to have walkers early into the first kilometer. Not running in a straight line really messes your rhythm up.

3. I still don’t know the proper water drinking technique. I took a sip after the first two kilometers and I totally lost my momentum. I felt really light headed afterwards.

4. I was surprised by my 2.45km split. I was well under 16 minutes. I guess I paced myself pretty well despite how badly I felt after the race.

5. I felt a lot worse after this 5km run compared to how I felt after the 10km at Condura. I don’t even know why. I felt so tired that I ended up not going to the “go-see” phase of the event. I was home before 830 in the morning. I slept like a baby.

I’ve already signed up for the Globe Run For Home event on the 21st of March. I’m still thinking if I want to join the Unilab Run For Wellness (March 7) or the potentially lethal Ateneo Run and Swim Event on March 14.
